pka_liloo2: фууууууууууууууууууууууу Posted on Fri, Dec. 14, 2007 Vaidisova, Stepanek apply for marriage license HERALD STAFF Bradenton resident Nicole Vaidisova, the 12th-ranked women's tennis player in the world, has filed papers for a marriage license with men's professional tennis player Radek Stepanek, according to information received from the Manatee County Clerk of Circuit Court. Vaidisova and Stepanek applied for the marriage license Dec. 10, and their names are on a public records list that will appear in Sunday's Herald. Vaidisova's agent at IMG Academies, Olivier Van Lindonk, could not be reached for comment. The 18-year-old Vaidisova turned pro in 2003 and is coming off her best year on the WTA Tour. She reached the semifinals at the Australian Open and the quarterfinals of the French Open and Wimbledon. Stepanek, 29, has two career titles on the ATP Tour, including one earlier this year in Los Angeles. His best Grand Slam showing was a quarterfinal berth at Wimbledon in 2006. Stepanek was previously engaged to another tennis player, Martina Hingis, but the two broke off their engagement in August. pka_liloo2: Sania Mirza news: DISTRESSED Indian star Sania Mirza is pondering her future following an official complaint that could see her jailed for allegedly disrepecting her national flag. As reported in The Australian yesterday, the talented 21-year-old has become a regular target for ultra-nationalists since her rise to prominence and now faces a string of allegations that she disrespected her country last week with her bare feet pictured near India's three-striped flag. Mirza was resting her feet in the back row of the courtside boxes at Perth's Hopman Cup when the picture was taken by an news agency photographer. The complaint, which has been filed to the Hyderabad High Court demanding action be taken under India's Prevention of Insult to the National Honour Act, carries a penalty of three years' jail and a fine. But Mirza's manager, Mahesh Bhupathi, a champion doubles player who won 10 Grand Slam titles, rejected the latest allegations as "ridiculous" and said the world No31 was shattered by the most recent claim. "She is very upset. It is a major issue for her," Bhupathi said. "At the end of the day she is a 21-year-old girl trying to do her best by everyone. "Everything is adding up and she is starting to wonder whether it is all worth it, but people close to her, they are telling her to hang in there." Mirza, an Indian Muslim who arrived in Melbourne last night after being knocked out of the Hobart International by Italy's Flavia Pennetta, recently earned the ire of Islamic fundamentalists after she was found participating in an advertising shoot outside Hyderabad's mosque. She was previously the target of a fatwa for wearing short skirts and singlet tops, while effigies were burnt after she was incorrectly accused of supporting pre-marital sex. But both Bhupathi and Hopman Cup organiser Paul McNamee said Mirza adored representing India and would never intentionally be disrespectful to her country. "Not many people would know this, but I as her manager know that she turned down a six-figure sum from another event to play for her country in Perth," Bhupathi said. "People don't know what goes on behind the scenes, yet they make these irresponsible and ignorant accusations. You don't turn down big money to play in another event if you don't love your country." A Women's Tennis Association insider also backed Mirza, saying no-one who had met the world No31 would ever accuse her of being disrespectful. "She is probably one of the most respectful people I know, especially when it comes to her heritage," the source said. Both McNamee and Bhupathi also questioned the legitimacy of the photograph, saying the angle of the shot distorted the proximity of Mirza's feet to the small plastic flag. "Sania would have been there sitting at the back of the box, certainly not at the front," McNamee said. McNamee said Mirza, who was watching partner Rohan Bopanna in his singles match, was following a practice adopted by most players in keeping her legs raised to assist in overcoming a lactic acid build-up to prevent cramping. "Her feet were up, like a lot of the girls do, because she had to get ready to play mixed doubles following her singles. It is just a normal situation," McNamee said. Bhupathi said the off-court distractions were hindering Mirza's preparation for the Australian Open. "It is affecting her form. It is affecting her mentally," Bhupathi said. Asian Tennis Federation chief, Anil Khanna, yesterday slammed the groups that have filed the complaint, saying they were disruptive to both Mirza and Indian tennis. "It is most unfortunate that Sania Mirza's name is being dragged unnecessarily from one controversy to the other," Khanna said.
